Operating as part of the US Department of Justice, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives protects the American public from violent crime. The ATF has the responsibility of investigating and preventing federal offenses involving: the use, manufacture, and possession of firearms and explosives; acts of arson and bombings; and illegal trafficking of alcohol and tobacco products.
